| Welcome to our international knowledge exchange program that includes a glossary, encyclopedia, handbook sections and bibliographies that summarize the evidence, experiences and examples of approaches, strategies and programs that promote healthy schools, safe schools, community schools, eco-friendly schools and effective schools. This web site is an excellent place to start when you are considering school-based or school-linked programs that promote various forms of human development. The term "schools for all" captures the various school-based and school-linked programs that support all human development purposes as well as for ensuring that schools serve all students, regardless of their background. This program intends to serve these audiences and organizations:
We will develop the topics and content of this web site in several ways over several years. In many cases, we hope to find funding to support International Discussion Groups that will use separate wikis and webinars to develop a series of topics under a broad heading such as School Nutrition or School Health Indicators. In other cases, we will develop glossary terms (as a starting point for more extensive documents) by working through various collections and toolboxes available on other web sites. At the same time, we will engage our partners in developing some of the core school-related concepts (eg comprehensive approaches) and related knowledge exchange or operational terms (eg levels of evidence and experience) that we will use for this program. Many of these Glossary Terms and Encyclopedia Entries will eventually appear in a final form on other web sites. We also anticipate that authors, editors and contributors will use the Handbook Sections as the basis of articles submitted tp peer-reviewed journals. This will be at the discretion of our sponsors and those designated individuals. Consequently, we ask that readers and users of this web site respect the normal rules of copyright and web-based protocols. Many of these glossary terms and encyclopedia entries are based on bibliographies of research and resources as well as on longer summaries (Handbook Sections) that have been developed through funded projects. These longer documents will be maintained in this wiki-based web site (www.schools-for-all.org). Please go to that web site and comment or suggest changes to those completed versions (that will be reviewed and changed periodically). The topics covered in this international knowledge exchnage program are organized alphabetically as well as under broad categories related to health, learning, safety, social development, environmental concerns and educational effectiveness. We have also used the ten key strategies promoted by the International School Health Network for school-based and school-linked programs as a content organizer. See our Table of Contents for an overview. The contents of this encyclopedia will grow gradually. Each entry or summary is intended to stand alone, as a useful tool for all concerned, but we have a plan to continuously add content through world wide collaboration.
